Problem Statement

“How might we improve the process of moving for busy people who require assistance moving from one home to another?”

Problem Background

“Moving is deemed to be among the top five most stressful life events*, but every other day people still go through this process. According to Statistics Canada, in the two years leading up to 2021, 2.1 million (13.8% of 15 million) Canadian households moved. Individuals and households go through this aggravating process for numerous reasons including; new jobs in new areas, retirement, seeking bigger or better housing, etc.

People have to move amidst other responsibilities like work, school, taking care of loved ones, etc. While some individuals move without relying on help or outsourcing jobs, others decide to outsource some of the steps involved. ”

This co.lab experience was a game-changer, equipping me with invaluable insights into the dynamic realm of product management.

I learned to spend a lot of time in the problem space before diving into solutioning. Getting all the key information is great so I build products tailored to user pain points.

The significance of crafting personas is crucial in envisioning how the product will be utilised.

The DTTTPM scholarship made this learning journey possible by bringing aspiring product managers from diverse backgrounds. Collaborating with like-minded individuals, sharing experiences, and engaging in thought-provoking discussions added a rich layer to the overall learning experience.

  1. Adapting to an Established Team: Joining the team in week 6 of 8 was challenging, as I had to quickly adapt to existing workflows, dynamics, and goals. This mirrors real-world situations where you often integrate into teams mid-project, and flexibility is essential.
  2. Work-Blocking for Efficiency: With only two weeks to complete the project, I learned the importance of a structured work-blocking system. This approach allowed me to manage my time effectively and meet deadlines under pressure.
  3. Making Data-Driven Design Decisions: Unlike my past projects, I had to rely on research conducted by others. This was a valuable experience in using pre-existing data to guide design decisions, helping me focus on the core insights without starting from scratch.

I learned how important communication is when working with a team. Communication provides understanding, advice, ideas, and much more. While working with the product team, I’ve found that communication keeps everything flowing smoothly. Working with a team also showed me that every member brings something different to the table and we all have to work together in order to align and meet our end goal.
