Problem Space

Problem Statement

How might we make the task of playing organized sports such as soccer and basketball with other people easy and more accessible?

Problem Background

The customers for our app would be individuals looking to participate in team-based sports matches, such as pickup soccer or pickup basketball games. The need for this problem is the difficulty that people face in finding enough players to organize and participate in team-based sports matches. Many people want to participate in sports matches but often struggle to gather enough players due to location, and busy schedules, or just being able to find people. We should address this process because nowadays people are very busy and they don’t have time to organize a sports match and they do not want to struggle with organizing the sports match. It has been increasingly challenging to find enough people to play with. There is a growing trend in health and fitness, and team-based sports are a great way to socialize and stay active. With everyone having smartphones nowadays it has never been easier to connect with people online that have the same interests and needs.

Research Insights

User Pain Points

“Using discord and group me, I identified a few different categories of users and did 10 user interviews”

Supporting Data

“80% of people I interviewed said they had trouble finding teammates to play with..”

Feedback

“Users had concerns about privacy and safety as they are meeting with random people”

Future Steps

Problems we would need to address are public safety with meeting with random people. Such as implementing features such as user verification, community reporting, an 18+ age limit, optional background checks, and serious community guidelines.

  1. Adapting to an Established Team: Joining the team in week 6 of 8 was challenging, as I had to quickly adapt to existing workflows, dynamics, and goals. This mirrors real-world situations where you often integrate into teams mid-project, and flexibility is essential.
  2. Work-Blocking for Efficiency: With only two weeks to complete the project, I learned the importance of a structured work-blocking system. This approach allowed me to manage my time effectively and meet deadlines under pressure.
  3. Making Data-Driven Design Decisions: Unlike my past projects, I had to rely on research conducted by others. This was a valuable experience in using pre-existing data to guide design decisions, helping me focus on the core insights without starting from scratch.

I learned how important communication is when working with a team. Communication provides understanding, advice, ideas, and much more. While working with the product team, I’ve found that communication keeps everything flowing smoothly. Working with a team also showed me that every member brings something different to the table and we all have to work together in order to align and meet our end goal.
